Good morning

New to the forum but long time train enthusiast just getting back into them, located in upstate SC.  Currently have 80' track with Z4000.

I have a SD 50 PS2 20-2580-1 that I decided to upgrade to BCR2. I installed and set it on tracks for 2 min to charge at 14v, all the lights and sounds worked, after about 30 seconds the volume increased so everything seemed good but let it charge for another minute and a half. When I returned the throttle and raised back up the engine moved forward, but with no lights or sounds, about 5 feet and went dead.  I checked the bcr2 and has 4.9 volts on it so is charged but the engine does nothing now.

I see some suggest upgrade to PS3 but the places I am finding that do this cost same as a new engine...   I have no quirks on doing it myself but cannot find the kit.

Thanks for any info

Darren

If this happened to me, just to be sure, I would check for a short somewhere and any other cause before spending more on the engine.  I have installed BCRs in over twenty-five PS2 engines, both voltage types, with no problems at all. Please do let us know the outcome, for it may be helpful should others have the same problem.

I really think the BCR install and failure were coincidental but it is on its way to GGG so we will wait and see...
