MTH UP SD-24 PS 2 stopped DEAD in it's tracks! Now DEAD short(?)

Running slowly, pulling 7 freight cars on straight , slightly inclined Atlas track. Stopped dead and Z4000 RED short light came on. I've isolated trucks and power to the board indicates a dead short. Any ideas? This is one of my favorite locomotives!

Let's start with a part number of the locomotive. If it's an older 5 volt board, they are known for premature failures due to bad capacitors. If this is the case a PS32 upgrade board is the way to go to get it back running.
