I currently have one MTH Z1000 powering 2 loops on a 5x8 table. After today, loop will be extended to 12ft. Would my Z1000 handle two passenger trains? One is an MTH AEM-7 proto 2.0 with 5 lighted amfleets, four of the amfleets have led lights and the other has incandescent lighting. On the inner loop, there will be a four car SEPTA mu set with led lighting. I'm not worried about the freight locomotive when I run it because that along with the etd at the back of the train shouldn't use too much power. I'm thinking about purchasing the Lionel 180 watt transformer. But if I don't have to, I won't.

It should be OK but you really should get another transformer. It would not only offer greater flexibility but also alleviate the stress to a single z1k. Have one transformer per loop.

Thank you for that advice. I will be going to Nicholas Smith Trains today to purchase one. Do you recommend the Lionel 180 watt or the Z1000?
If the Z-1000 is working well for you, I recommend getting another one. (i.e. don't fix what ain't broken!) You don't want to introduce potential new issues with locomotive compatibility, transformer phasing, etc. by using a different source.

Thank you for that advice. I will be getting the Z1000 then. Just wondering, what kind of issues a lionel 180 watt transformer would do to a tiu?
