For those who love the R40 Slant subway cars, I came across this video on YouTube today.  It's a 13-year old video and I can't believe that I never saw it before today.

It's a 2008 musical farewell tribute to the Slants that were going to be retired in the coming year to the tune of rock band Europe "The Final Countdown" song.  Music may be too loud for some, but I was immediately transported back to my college years in the mid 1980s.

My favorite part is at the 0:53 mark with what basically is a 4-train drag race at the Sheepshead Bay station perfectly timed to the music.

Enjoy!

Kevin, I don't know much about rapid transit cars, having never lived or worked in a big city, but the drag race is neat!  I agree, the timing of the music is great at 53 seconds.  I know what you mean about music transporting you in time.  I would have to go back 10 years to get to my college years.

So am I to take it that these cars were retired 13 years ago?

Mark,

I looked it up and the actual retirement date of the R40 Slants was June 2009, a long time since I used to ride them on the Brighton Beach line.
