Here is the link to the original topic describing the building of the layout in NJ.

Four years ago we moved to NC and had to cut the layout in half to get it out of the basement.

It sat in the garage until this week, lots of projects with the new house took up time.

Basements down here are rare but fortunately the crawl space is over 6 feet tall in spots.  The house is on the side of a hill so the floor is not level, not a big problem. Made some leveling blocks. To control the humidity, covered the existing plastic sheeting on the floor with Harbor Freight interlocking foam tiles, closed the vents, and added a dehumidifier.  Another issue contributing to the humidity situation was that the front walk was tilted towards the house.  Had someone inject foam below the slab to raise it.  Now the water flows away from the house.

With the humidity under control it was time to resurrect the layout.

First step was to reconnect the two halves and reinforce the joint with aluminum L channel to prevent sagging.

Next was to reinstall the track and make sure the wiring was still correct.  This was all done in and outside my garage.

Then with the aid of my neighbors, carried the layout into the crawlspace and leveled it up.

Put all the accessories, buildings, people, cars, and scenery back.

Took four days time, about 5 hours each day.  Being retired helps

It's operating now.  Hooray!!😄

Here are some pics of the process.

Third picture is in the crawlspace.  The bins contain my car and truck model collection.  Another hobby of mine.

Your post brings back memories.  That was my brothers and my first layout in 1956.  It was in the finished attic of our 1910 American Four-Square.  Like you we had to saw it in half to get it out 4 years later.  We had gotten an extra pair of switches so we added a passing siding in the front of the layout.  At that time you could get Homasote in 10' x 4' sheets which could be cut and fitted to make a 8' x 5' table.
