My favorite MTH cars never saw the inside of MTH packaging. But since MTH now owns all of the ex-S-Helper Service dies, any future runs of these S scale models will make them MTH cars. My favorites are the 40-foot single- and double-sheathed wooden boxcars with excellent wood grain detail. Recently I have repainted (if necessary) and decaled numerous cars for pre-1985 Mexican railroads. For the major railroads such as Ferrocarril del Pacifico and National Railways of Mexico Microscale HO decals on steel boxcars will suffice. But for obscure lines such as San Diego & Arizona Eastern, Southern Pacific of Mexico or Ferrocarriles Unidos del Sureste, individual letters and numbers must be individually cut and positioned on car sides.
My question is, does MTH have any tentative schedule as to when the wooden SHS boxcars might again be available? I will be very surprised if MTH ever produces any Mexican roadname equipment other than present-day examples, and even more surprised if MTH makes any undecorated rolling stock available to the public,
