I received my first NS Heritage diesel yesterday...the MTH Premier Jersey Central SD70 ACe (photos below).  Plenty of fine-scale, add-on details and excellent paint job.  I put it on the track last night and it sounds awesome, especially the unique start-up sounds, and the 8 levels of diesel roar.  Easily the loudest and clearest-sounding MTH diesel I own.

Only one, minor out-of-the-box issue: one of the fine wire sand pipes had fallen off the rear truck...not bad considering the many small details on this locomotive.  A little JB Weld and problem fixed.

I couldn't run it all the way around my very small layout...it was hitting everything in sight trying to negotiate the 0-42 curves!!  I knew this would be the case, so back and forth it went on the straight section of track.  She will get to fully stretch her legs when I build a bigger layout with wider curves!  Click on any photo below to enlarge it...

I opted for the MTH version of the JC SD70ACe also -- especially after comparing both MTH vs Lionel at one of my LHS's today.  The whole glossy (Lionel) vs. matte (MTH) finish aside, I just felt that MTH got the colors more accurate.  The MTH orange is a very deep, true orange... whereas the Lionel unit's orange has a very heavy yellowish hue to it.

I'm just glad we have the choice, since both importers offered the complete Norfolk Southern series of heritage locomotives.    For some paint schemes, the MTH matte finish appealed to my eye... and for others, the Lionel glossy finish looked fabulous!
