My idea for track bumpers - UPDATED: now slightly more prototypical - and they work very well for me

why build something not prototypical when it is just as east to build something that is?

I like them and fully understand the real estate concern.

Those are pretty cool! I like how they don't take up a lot of space.

My experience with bumpers in real life has been that anything works if it works. We used old ingot molds at the foundry as bumpers.

I hadn't seen this thread before, but I've seen that bumper design!   When I was trying to figure out what to put at the end of my turntable whisker tracks, my eyes fall on all the left over Gargraves ties from laying the track.  Drill a hole, put a screw into it, and you have a perfectly functional bumper.

The jumper across the back ties the two outside rails together, saved me from having an extra drop, for the whisker tracks I wanted both outside rails live for reliability.

Nice.  I have found space is an issue and every inch counts.  Plus, there is intrinsic beauty in "rolling your own".  If OGRR doesn't want to publish your design, perhaps you can post the drawings here.  Thanks for sharing.

I have something like this. I made them from plastic and wood. The vertical posts in the front are designed to fit in between the track ties holding the bumper in place. Since then I have added 18V red lamps to the top cross beam that connects to the track. This ended up being a great way to know if power to an isolated spur is turned on.

Since I squeezed the TurnTable into a tight spot, I didn't want to make the bumpers consume much track space, so I tried to make them as compact as possible.

Funny to see an old post revived and take on new life.

I've been rolling my own for a while now.

Modeled after the FT earthen bumper. I added a LED to the latest iteration.

Being in over my head in too much RR at  too late in life I sometimes just  cut prototypical corners.  OK frequently.  Oh well, all the time.

After installing most of the track I wound up needing 90 bumpers to protect the concrete floor from taking multiple nicks and scratches.

90 of anything can get expensive or time consuming so using 1" lengths of Toyota vacuum hose and a box of 1 5/8" 7 penny square drive trim  screws and installing them just inside the rails high enough to grab the axles, it works as needed.

These are what I made where track space was at a premium on my old S Scale railroad.  In the background is a standard bumper.  The main post are in a holes drilled through the plywood:

The one in the foreground them DID stop a full speed DCC/Legacy runaway locomotive.

I was all set to say here is my low carbon footprint bumper, in that I did not cut, glue or use other materials, but I guess that is all easily offset by the fact that someone once mined this piece of coal (a fossil fuel) that I found (and then I glued it)...anyway, and not mentioning any possible ozone from the locomotive being emitted, here is my bumper from my last layout.

However, I don't think a resin bumper would stop a full speed DCC/Legacy runaway locomotive
