OK, but a Legacy version, if done correctly, wouldn't pull any more cars, would it? Nor would the whistle and bell sound any different, would they? How about smoke?   Price????

I would say yes on the sounds, my legacy Hudson sounds a lot different than my ps2 Hudson and they both smoke about the same.  I could lash it up with my other legacy engines, plus I'd sell the MTH engine to offset the cost of the new engine.

I would assume so - my TMCC Railsounds Lionel Niagara has a nice, single-chime horn - AUX1 + 6 on my CAB-1, as I recall. I use it instead of the whistle - as I also do on my SP AC-9 Lima.

Blaaat! I like steamers with horns. I read somewhere that these (somebody's? everybody's?) were intended as "around the yards" warning shots, rather than for road use. Why would this be?

This, like the huge "whistle steam usage" idea, may also be pure moonshine. Or not. I dunno.

Certainly not in the Southern Pacific railroad. Any and all steam locomotives that were equipped with air horns, rarely if ever used the steam whistle. The steam whistle was ONLY used to signal crew members, while the air horns were constantly used for all grade crossings and any other "warnings", since the air horn carried further forward and also penetrated thru the fog of the Coast Route and the inland valleys.

I'd love to get a NYC scale 2-6-0 Mogul with operating front coupler, LC+ would be great for me.  I love the way the Bachmann HO one looks (picture found online below), but I'm quite certain we'd never get a similar one in O.

Lionel did a TMCC one ~10+ yrs ago: http://www.lionel.com/products...motive-1924-6-38088/
Nassau still has one of these listed on their website, but other than the Nassau website I haven't seen them on the bay or anywhere for sale on the secondary market.  Here's a pic I found online.

Lionel did another round about 5 yrs ago (2011 catalogs) but I don't think there was a NYC option.

These older ones could be fairly common, but I've been thinking about getting one for a while now and haven't seen them pop up.

Joe - yes; I have the K-line. Love it - runs well, K-line cruise and all. It has one big flaw - maybe I'll correct it one day, without butchering it - as a bi-directional loco (and a great switcher, actually - very electrically sure-footed) it needs a decent-looking front O-gauge coupler - Electrocoupler if possible, mechanical or dummy if necessary, and I don't mean the saggy, too-long O-gauge coupler in the box. Shouldn't be too hard - I simply have never addressed the issue. A "Pocket Hudson" - esthetically, kinda, sorta. Love to run it backwards.

Murnane - there was a NYC version - I have it. Not sure of the number or date of manufacture. I agree - great-looking loco, though I believe that Lionel's was a B&M (?) prototype. I'm fine with that - it's pretty close. Like 4-6-0's, there was often a generic look about them. I like Moguls better than 4-6-0's for some reason. The SP had some huge ones - for a 2-6-0.

I had been looking for a while - and one showed up on daBay, 2 or so years ago. Wasn't even a bad price; I jumped on it. TMCC, etc. Runs well. They are indeed rare.

Legacy Dreyfus Hudson (if not Vision Line) w/matching and accurate cars has got to be at the top.  Cars 21", or course, either by Lionel or 3rd Rail.

I definitely like the Niagara idea, esp. if available in either a freight or passenger set.

Would also love a set of the green Legacy E8s like MTH did a few years back.

That & I still would like to try snag a set of the Baldwin Shark-nose diesels, too.
