Is anyone planning to follow 611 from Spencer to Strasburg? And if you are would you please keep us updated by posting here. I understand she is being steamed up today (Thursday) but have no idea when the move will take place.

My GUESS on the route is Spencer to Monroe (Lynchburg), then to Roanoke and then up the Shenandoah line to Hagerstown. Again this is only a GUESS.

Thank you,

George Lasley

I have no knowledge of the route, however be aware that an NS diesel unit will be on the point in order to have functional PTC equipment. Although 611 will be under steam, in order to provide proper lubrication to the valves & cylinders, the diesel will be in control.

Also, NS management does NOT want the schedule/routing publicized, due to possible liability issues with people at trackside.

The museum website has no event listed for this weekend, just the fire up today.

NS won’t say when, but the cat will be out of the bag at some point when she departs.

Last time 611 was doing most of the work even with the diesel on the point. The horn definitely lost out to the whistle. There was also more chuff than prime mover. Still worth watching.

I understand that, but the funny thing is they blow the whistle at every grade crossing. Now, what brings people out of the woodwork faster than anything else? After all, our friends in Ft Wayne don't say "listen for the horn".

I came across a schedule for the move, but it was all rescheduled after sunday events were added at NCTM. The loco is (apparently) now to leave Monday morning. I’ll attach a photo of the image I was given, but note the dates will be off from what actually happens. Again, not sure if the information is correct, but it’s the most we’ve gotten so far. I personally was sent it via some people on Social Media.
