I just aquired a K-line A-5 switcher with TMCC.

It work very well with all functions TMCC until it derailled in a switch and is not respondind no more to the command base and CAB-1 no more.

I have tried reprogramming steps by LIonel for K-line locos:

TO RESTORE TMCC FUNCTIONS: STEP 1: Move switch on loco from RUN to PROGRAM STEP 2: Turn on Command Base STEP 3: Place loco on track, then turn on power to track STEP 4: Press "ENG" then input loco ID#. Press "SET". STEP 5: Press "ENG" then input loco ID# again. STEP 6: Press "AUX 1", then input the reprogramming code number than corresponds to your loco (See list below). STEP 7: Turn off power to track, wait ten seconds. STEP 8: Remove loco from track, move switch from PROGRAM to RUN. STEP 9: Place loco back on track. Turn power on to track. STEP 10: Press "ENG" and ID#, then operate as normal.

Nothing happen after the procedure

the ID was #1 before deraillement and I tried #4 for the reprogramming code.

Is there anything else I can do to solve this problem.

The help would be very usefull

Thank you in advance

Jacques.

P.S. it run in conventionnal mode but the sound is erratic.

Does it make any sounds during the programming functions?  It should give you a whistle after the SET button and again when you do the AUX1/4 (4 should be your code).

If you're not getting those, it's not seeing the TMCC signal.  Top suspect since it was a derailment is probably the R2LC board.

Thank you for the fast reply.

there is no sound when I do the procedure.... next shelf queen? Are boards available? What is the cost of one

First step is pull the shell off the engine and reseat the boards and make sure the antenna is still plugged in. Then try reprogramming it with the engine shell still off.

Thank you for the help Pete

I took off the tender shell, then reseated the boards. Try reprogramming .. nothing happening

Like gunrunnerjohn said, I get no sound when doing the procedure...

I'm not  that good with the electronics of the engine,

could you please indicate me wich part is the antenna?

I feel it is a shame because this is a very nice little loco and It would see some nice working time... if I can GET IT TO WORK

Jacques

On that engine the antenna is a black wire, wire nutted to two other black wires that go up into the shell. To leave the shell off remove the wire nut and unravel the two wires that go to the shell leaving the third wire alone. Then the connector to the headlight.

One other test is remove the tether from the engine and place the tender on the tracks and see if you hear sounds. If not you may have a loose board in the tender. If you do hear sounds then the problem is in the engine and likely the radio board (R2LC) as John suggested. No worries as these are readily available from Lionel.

Thank you so much.

I do hear sound when the tender is on the track... then the board is fried ( would have love to only fry my eeg at breakfast today... Darn)

I you an idea how much cost a board like that?

@Norton posted:

They retail for 40 bucks and Lionel charges 10 bucks to ship. If you have any more TMCC engines you might want to try swapping radio boards to make sure thats the problem. Here is the part number and what it looks like.

Pete

Thank. That is the board in the back of the locomotive itself

I will swap it with  one from another loco to see if this works

it is safe to do so?

TRAINS UP NORTH,

If you wait until the first week in November, Lionel usually has there 50% discount on parts.  I usually pick up a few boards and things then, just a thought.  Hope you get it fixed.

Wow laz1957...

Such great information...

O.K. All you great gentlement have conviced me of becoming a supporting member.

In these very uncertain times' it is good to have our great hobby to let say " stay on the track" ... and to have this virtual brotherhood is priceless.

hope for better times an the possibility of travelling down in the US (when the border will be open ) to meet somes of you in train shows

Thank so much.
