Hi everyone,  I am completely new to trains and I needed to get your thoughts on this 252 set.  It comes with a Terra Cotta 252 engine, (2) 529 Pullman, 530 Observation, and (2) 804 tank cars (1 shell and 1 sunoco).  It looks to have been restored.  What (in your opinion) is the value of this set and would it be more valuable if it were not restored (but chipped and rusty)?

The 252 set should have either not both passenger and tank cars.

However the engine could bring around $125 to $150 depending on condition, and the other cars about $25 each. For the whole set, a ball park figuire of $220.00 would be good. You know this set is pre-war, before WW-2, and has the old fashion hook & pin couplers.

It would be more valueable in original paint but maybe it would look very bad and not sell.

Thanks Lee!  I appreciate your help.  I feel like this is a great starter set for a new collector.  I am very happy with it.
