Early 2-4-0 versions were made only in 1930 after Lionel acquired Ives; they were similar to the 257 and came with a black 257T tender.  Some models had an orange or cream stripe.  Unlike the 257, the 258 had a manual reverse switch.  In 1941 the 258 changed to a 2-4-2 and included a 1689T tender.  The later version was similar to the 259E.
