I recently purchased a new iPhone XS to replace my old company provided iPhone 6.  I was able to transfer the premium version of the MTH Wi-Fi app from the old phone to the new and began running trains from the new phone; or at least I am TRYING to.

For some reason; the app seems to either disconnect from the Wi-Fi unit at times or "buttons" on the face of my phone will simply fail to respond.  For example; I'll press the horn button and nothing will happen for as much as 30 seconds then the horn will finally sound.  From the soft key screen on the app; I'll press forward signal and the same kind of delay will occur.  Occasionally; when first starting out; an engine will move along at a glacial speed despite me having it dialed up to say 27 scale MPH.  It will run like this for almost a complete circuit of my layout before finally ramping up to the speed I've set on my phone.

I've perused some of the earlier threads concerning issues with iPhone 7's and have tried some of the tips mentioned in those threads such as hitting the little reset icon in the upper left portion of the "home" screen; turning off the "auto-join" function; as well as countless app resets and even completely removing the app from my phone and then downloading again from the Cloud.  I've disconnected from the DCS Wi-Fi and reconnected.  I even decided to bite the bullet and purchase and download a second version of the premium app straight to my new XS.  Regardless what I do; the app will function properly for about 10 minutes or so and then the nonsense starts again.

I still have my company provided iPhone 6 and, when the issues start, I have traded off between the new XS and the old 6 just to see if it might be the Wi-Fi unit or the TIU and in every instance; the app works perfectly from the old iPhone 6.  I have about concluded there must be some sort of glitch to the software in the premium Wi-Fi version I'm running that doesn't "like" the communication its receiving from the iPhone XS.  And I'll add beyond the issues with MTH DCS Wi-Fi; the new iPhone XS works perfectly for everything else I'm using it for so; I don't believe there is anything wrong with the phone itself.

To say I'm finding this frustrating would be understatement and it has pretty much ruined the enjoyment I had been experiencing running trains using the Wi-Fi app.  So; do any of you DCS Wi-Fi or software experts have any suggestions how to address this?

Thanks in advance!

Curt

Thanks Mike!  Working from home today so I’ll do the network reset recommended in the article and see if that corrects the issue.

I also sent an email to MTH tech support to see if they have any suggestions.

Edit:  Well; tried the network reset and then ran trains for about 30 minutes.  Within that period of time I only experienced one instance where the “buttons” on my phone would not immediately respond to a command.  So; definitely an improvement but, not to 100% yet.

I am experiencing similar delay issues with the horn (30 second delay and then works fine) and the speed.  I have the free version of the app installed on my iphone  and I am using the DCS explorer. Not sure with your wifi unit, but with the explorer I can see that when I tap the horn on the app a signal is sent to the explorer.  The explorer flashes when any command is sent from the app to the explorer.  So not sure if it is a bad command from the app or the explorer is not processing it correctly or in a timely manner.

Beach:

I am still waiting to hear back from MTH but; the network reset seems to have corrected things to about 98-99%.  Last night I ran trains for between 30 and 40 minutes and did not experience any of the delayed communication issues until I was shutting things down and bringing a train to a stop from 5 scale MPH.  I had the speedometer needle at zero but the train continued another two feet before receiving the command and stopping.

God knows I’ll never be identified as a “techie” but; I am convinced this is some sort of programming quirk that will require an MTH update to eliminate entirely.  The WiFi app works perfectly from my old iPhone 6 so it can’t be the WiFi unit itself, the TIU or the DCS version 5.0 still on the TIU (although I do plan to load version 6.1 just to see for sure).
