Received the Lionel F7 pair. One is ex GN big sky blue but marked BN, the other is BN green. I had not preordered these but decided to add them for my Amtrak rainbow era mix of equipment.
Immediately upon opening both units the fear I now always have when I open new orange boxes quickly proved warranted once again. Deep scratches in the roof on both units. Also a screw from somewhere landed on a magnet for the roof access panel for the adjustment switches. The dealer where I purchased them did offer to give me a refund. I decided to embark on an attempt to reach Lionel via email and phone. They did reply with a form letter reply, but nothing was accomplished. Many attempts and wasted hours on hold listening to their fiddle music really started wearing on me from Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, into Monday. Nothing! Determined to not have to give up these locomotives for refund, I searched for other phone numbers of top brass at Lionel and left a message there. The following morning at 8am I received a call. I am now in line waiting for an email with an RA number.
I have a GN U-boat here that never got in to Lionel because I could never reach them. A set of CP 21" passenger cars that arrived with numerous decorative problems. These all in the past 12 months. This is strike 3 for Lionel. And I had to take rather unorthodox ways to get through to them this time. I seriously doubt I will ever buy from Lionel again. If they get my repairs completed to my satisfaction I may put them on probationary buying. These things cost too much to accept repeated problems and having to chase down executives to get a response.
For better or worse, here are the Locomotives. Beautiful other than the scratches and loose screw caught by the magnet for the roof panel access.
What the heck is going on at Lionel? The last two pics are exactly what I saw immediately upon removing the foam lid. The screw laying in the ballast by the big sky blue F7 is from somewhere in that locomotive. Immediate disappointment yet again. The Amtrak unit in the pics is a prestine Atlas O model.
