Just got a new MTH wood water tower but it won't lower. I have the top off and hear a motor hum and what sounds like gears but nothing is turning or moving that I can see. Anybody got any ideas???
Thanks,
Gene

I hope so. I have one and have replaced the gears and motor and it still will not lower.
Well. That's discouraging!
i wish lionels $170.00 water tower had a lowering spout with cab1 or cab2, wouldn't that be great!
Hi Gene, I will try to help you out. In the photo below do you see the screw holding the motor. Loosen it a little and see if it frees the gear's up. It sounds like the gear's
are jammed.
Thanks Alex. I will try this tomorrow but . . . I can clearly see the motor shaft now and it is turning quite quickly. I suspect the drive gear has come loose off the motor shaft. I must say I have been sorely dissapointed with MTH in the last few years. I have had several issues with brand new products.

I see, I thought it was jammed, but I guess like you said something is loose or stripped. It is kind of disappointing what's going on with MTH. I've been lucky so far with them.
Alex
the small gear on the motor shaft splits. You can try a good apoxy if it is ,use it on as low a voltage as you can if you do end up getting it going . it will get ya a few months out of it. Luckily i found the motors with gear at york 14.00 .
Mine split the gear as well.
Call MTH and ask for a EH-5200000 gear. This is the motor gear. Not hard to replace. Since this is new, I would assume they would send you one pretty quickly. G
