Good news, indeed!
My wife and I rode the St. Charles line between Christmas and New Year's Day. We saw elegant homes beautifully decorated for the holidays.
Saw this this morning, I was amazed that these cars are new and built locally - they look like antiques. Did you catch that they lost their other cars in the hurricane? What a plug for American Built !!
The red cars are built for the Riverfront line along the Mississippi from Historic French Market to Aquarium of the Americas. The clerestory conceals air conditioning equipment.
Six green cars were built by Peley A. Thomas Company in 1923-1924 for the historic St. Charles line, the oldest in North America, dating back to 1835.
Service on Canal Street connects Riverfront and St. Charles. Streetcars keep going north on Canal Street to City Park and historic Cemeteries.
The New Orleans cars are an excellent choice for one of the big companies to market. I can't believe, with all of the choices of quintessential trolley cars, that Bachmann brought out that ugly flat faced Peter Witt unique to only one city on the planet!
