NS posted this story on their Face Book Page....

What makes railfanning fun? It's not just the trains, but also the railfans. The railfan who you see trackside, year after year. In this case we pay tribute to a railfan who has passed away. Jimmy Allison was a railfan who spent decades waving to us and spending time with our crews. Jimmy lived along the tracks in Marshall, Virginia, but his love for trains began years before when his father was a stationmaster for Southern Railway. Stories have been told about how he and his father stopped a train from hitting a washout and therefore there was a siding named after his family. When an NS train would approach, Jimmy would wave his hat and give us the "highball." He always made time for us when we came rolling by so tonight, we make time for him. Farewell, old friend and happy trails.

"We wanted to follow-up on a post we recently shared about the passing of railfan Jimmy Allison. James "Jimmy" Allison was laid to rest this past Thursday. He always told everyone the railroad was his second family and would drop what he was doing to wave to every train going by, coming to be well known by train crews as far away as Lynchburg and Harrisburg."

"Jimmy's son shared a memory of his father with us. When asked by his son why he always waved to the passing trains he said, "It can be lonely for those men on the railroad being away from their families. I just want them to know there's someone along the line that's their friend and respects them for what they do." Respect goes both ways here, Jimmy. Thanks for always looking out for us. We'll still give you a wave as we roll by CP Allison."

Perhaps you missed these words in the NS follow-up...CP ALLISON

The NS has named a Control Point interlocking in Jimmy Allison's honor as a nice gesture towards his family and Jimmy's memory.

The NS also did something like this for an employee...the late Edward J. Hauber of Mobile, AL. Ed was a Division Superintendent who came up through the ranks, was very well like and respected by all. We both worked together in the 1960's during college breaks/vacation on the Jersey Central RR and Ed was my best man when I married Susie. CP HAUBER is located on NS/former Southern Rwy. trackage in the Mobile, AL area. Ed's name is sounded through the airwaves many times each day...a fitting remembrance.

And now Jimmy has this too.
