I participated in the initial GG1 issue that was on this forum. However I had not received the Tuscan GG1 that I ordered. Today I picked-up my Tuscan GG1. I looked carefully for the "mold " marks and of course the other issues reported in the Forum.

Since I joined in in the "complaining", I feel that, after my inspection, it is only fair to then join in on the "non-complaining" .

What I found is this:  there is a slight centerline mark;  HOWEVER because this version has the BLACK Asphaltic rectangles present on the top, the other mold marks are not noticeable and tend to blend in

I can imagine a finish detail that says since we are going to paint black rectangles on the top of the GG1, there is no reason to completely sand off smooth the mold marks as they will be invisible.

There are no other issues with the pantographs being loose in the box or the ladders being bent or the top lift-off plates being shifted.

ALL FINE, thanks Lionel!

Thanks AlanHN! It is pleasing to me and I am sure many others to see a more positive review of the new Vision Line GG1. I have the JLC Tuscan GG1 with the Pennsylvania 18" aluminum passengers cars in tow under a catenary system. This is my favorite part of the layout. I am very appreciative that Lionel offers trains like these. I have been collecting Lionel trains for 68 years and minor defects and repairable issues do not prevent me from enjoying the hobby. Happy New Year.

I don't care what anyone says. Mold parting lines or not....I want one of these creatures. GG1's make my blood hot. And these are a beautiful machine. Thinking about picking one up in a few months when they go on da bay

I understand I didn't shell out the big money for one so I shouldn't say anything, but the mold lines I saw in the previous thread didn't bother me at all . It was blown way out of whack.

They're on fleabay. They were on fleabay before I even got Charlie Ro's email notice. Plenty to be had and prices are about the price at which most dealers are selling. Good luck - I'm sure you'll find the paint job you want!

Now (or in a few months) is not a good time to get these VisionLine models on eBay, since you're unlikely to find good deals.     Just too soon.

The ones out there now are far more expensive than most authorized dealers want right now.  On average, prices in smaller shops (and even some large dealers) seem to have settled around $1250 for what is a $1399 MSRP locomotive.  Most of the stuff on eBay now is just a few dollars under MSRP, with the usual suspects testing the waters out at above-MSRP prices.

A few large dealers like Charles Ro are holding to their pre-order price of $1190.  And Legacy Station just wrapped up a great end-of-year "20% off MSRP" sale, where these could be had for $1120.

Meanwhile most of the JLC models in LN to Mint condition (now 8+ years old) can be purchased for between $450-$600, except for the black Penn Central version that often commands a premium above the original $899 MSRP of the JLC models.
