A Pittsburgh native who works for Norfolk Southern was killed after being hit by a train in New Orleans.
Authorities said Kyle Liebold, 25, formerly of Jefferson Hills and a worker for Norfolk Southern, was found dead Saturday.
Mr. Liebold was working on the rail line south of the Little Woods community when the northbound train hit him after 6 a.m., Norfolk Southern Railway spokeswoman Susan Terpay said.
New Orleans police said the accident happened at 6:22 a.m. along Lake Pontchartrain, The (New Orleans) Times-Picayune reported.
Mr. Liebold started working at Norfolk in 2014. He was previously a firefighter and EMT for the Brookside Fire Company in Erie, Pa. On the fire department's Facebook page, the officials said he worked there for four years while attending college at Penn State Erie. They said he was also a member of the Erie, Pa., Perry Hi-Way Hose Company.
