If it is an 027 horse corral car the answer is NO! You will have to re-wire either the UCS track or the horse corral car.

The difference is the 027 track provides both hot & common to the car via the remote control track. The O gauge or 031 UCS track provides only the hot wire(no common or return power) to either of the rails by use of the remote control.

Sorry, I'm having trouble understanding all of this:

  1. If the original poster would change his thread title to something like "Can O Gauge UCS Remote Control Track be used for the Horse car?" he might get a lot more replies.  The only reason I viewed this post was because I thought it might have been posted to the For Sale forum and I wanted to see the asking price.

  2. Lee: I don't understand.  You were emphatic about answering that it can't be done with the O27 uncoupling section ("NO!"), but in your explanation of the hot wires/ground wires UCS track, you didn't answer yes or no to the original question.

Until the thread title is changed and others get here to answer, I'll repeat the OP's question:

Can an O Gauge UCS Remote Control Track be used for the Horse car in place of the button and rails that came with the Horse car?

I think we're just looking for "yes" or "no" as it pertains to a section of UCS (or RCS) track.

Thanks.

The horse car is wired with the coil to grounded to the frame. According to the Lionel service manual, the horse car only has one collector shoe. (I don't have one handy to check).
An O or 027 operating track set should be able to operate the car by pressing the "uncouple" button, which sends power to all control rails (that is how I test the car). Pressing the "unload" button only sends power to some of the control rails, the balance being "grounded".

If you used a UCS, I do not think you would be able to use the alignment brackets that are mounted on the corral. They may be in the way.

All in all, I think it is just easier to use the OTC contactor.

One could also interpret the question to be asking what methods can be used to activate a rolling-stock accessory if you don't have the factory/original track section because it broke, replacement too expensive, whatever.  In this albeit lengthy thread the idea started with the question of how to use the uncoupler (electromagnet) function of a UCS to activate the unloading (shoe) function of a coal car.

https://ogrforum.com/topic/reed-switch?page=1

The eventual solution was to use a simple light bulb to activate the unloading (shoe) function of an animated rolling stock car - completely eliminating the need for a special track section at all!  Not that you'd have multiple corrals around the layout but it shows there ARE alternatives to activating animated rolling stock that do not require the original/factory shoe-based track section.
