Hi, I'm new to this forum and am requesting help for the above.
I build locomotives in 7/8ths where O scale represents 18" narrow gauge. I'm on the lookout for powered chassis that run slowly and smoothly and don't have a large projecting motor. These would be 0-4-0 (or 0-6-0 where I can remove the middle driver) for scratch building small steam and diesel locos. An undesirable example would be the old Atlas Plymouth 0-6-0. When the body shell is removed you have a huge weight enclosing a vertical motor, and not a particularly smooth starter.
Something better would be like an On30 Bachmann streetcar or maintenance truck chassis that is flat once you remove the superstructure (the motor located within as opposed to above the chassis); inexpensive, readily available on EBay, smooth running. That type of chassis in O scale is what I'm asking you folks to help me identify. I don't follow O Scale so I'm basically clueless.
Thanks for your help,
