Hi friends,

I have had several emails asking about my sell-off of O scale. Although I have had several medical issues lately that is not the reason. I have another surgery coming up soon but after that I plan to get back to my railroading. I will continue to build cabooses for my clients in O scale and HO scale. I am switching to HO scale. My layout room is 12 X 20 and was OK for a modest O scale layout. I have decided to give some of that space to my other hobby so my model RR space will be down to 12X14. That will not do for O so I am going to HO. I am not sure which road I will be modeling in HO but I have narrowed it down to Lehigh Valley (a branch), Gulf Mobile & Ohio, Fernwood Columbia & gulf (short line) or Bangor & Aroostook.

Thanks for you concern. You ain't getting rid of me that easy

Update. I asked my wife to help me today to brainstorm and measure my available space. I should have known she would come up with several good ideas. It is not a sure thing yet but there is hope I can keep my O scale layout. She felt sorry for me because I was looking at my hand laid track with moist eyes with the thought of tearing it up. We will look at it again tomorrow after church with fresh eyes. I have used a roll of masking tape already trying to reposition walls to save my layout. You know, HO is a great scale but it does not have that "heft" and "ponderous feel" of O scale.

We will see. Malcolm

God bless you to improve your health!  As for you changing to HO.......I am a bit jealous because now with sound and remote control (DCC is it?),........ you get a lot more action than you used to in past years.

And I've seen some very creative layouts that don't have the much vaunted return loop.  Think of it as one less rail to keep shiny!

And get some CB & Q equipment (well maybe)

from one Malcolm to another,

Hope all is well, God speed.

12'x 14' is lots O room for O gauge.

my O gauge train board I take to shows

is only 8'x 12' and I run a four(4) track main line.

run em fast and furious!!

Malcolm,

You don't know me, but I have learned so much from your posts on this forum. You have no idea how many people you have inspired to keep improving (even tho' I have no hope of reaching your level).  Good luck with everything.

BTW, I say go with Bangor and Aroostook.  They had so much oddball stuff that would be right up your alley, like TOFC flats made from gondolas.

Regards,

BRUCE

Prayers that the LORD keep you in his care, Malcolm!

BTW I've kept an amount of my old HO from years ago even though I became all 2 rail O scale about 1989 or 1990.  I use the "buy now or cry later" theory and some of my HO resin and brass is irreplaceable today.

You really, really are quite the scratchbuilder.  If you ever decide to do prototypes of FGEX wood reefers I know a few of us PRR nuts that would be buyers.

Malcolm,

First, hope your upcoming surgery goes smoothly. Not trying to be nosey, but wondering what the other hobby is that you are trying to accommodate. I'm thinking maybe some of the folks here might be able to help (idea wise) if they knew what you were trying to do, like what space you had and what you were trying to put there and such. A lot of smart people here (not me ), so why not put them to work! Maybe you can save that "O".

Take care,

Simon

Malcolm,

Best of luck with your upcoming surgery.

Your postings have been very inspirational for me, and I hope you keep them coming.

One suggestion if you do follow through with your HO move. Save at least a few of your O scale items. Save your favorite locomotive and caboose, put them in storage or display them on a shelf because you do not know what the future holds. You might have a great place for a layout before you know it and regret selling all of your "big trains".
