A bunch of us are heading down to the Valley Railroad in Essex, Ct to ride the caboose on the first train of the day Saturday Oct 4th.  The Caboose holds up to 12.  If you get there early say 9:30 AM the first run of the day does a free trip south to Old Saybrook, then back to the station for the regular run North at 11 AM. So it turns out to be around 2 hours of New England steam fun.  Afterwords we are headed out to eat lunch somewhere.

Interested meet us at the station/Caboose around 9:30 AM, Also caboose rides are five bucks more on top of regular fair.  More information here.

I want to do that so much, one of these days  Did the dinner train many moons ago, great ride and a great meal.

I booked the program back in March specifically for November figuring that the warm/hot locomotive cab would feel good on a cool/cold November morning.  Perhaps there might be some frost on the ground as I chug through the valley.  I’ve been wanting to do this for years and I’m glad that I now have my chance.  If you’re able to do it, go for it.  I’ve heard nothing by great things about the program and experiences from others.
