Flks,

I am looking for advice about printing deals.   I am using a color laser printer along with the correct decal paper for that printer.

I am trying to print orange decals that will go on black coal hoppers.  The decals look fine on the sheet but when applied to the car they darken up so much you can barely see them.   I've tried various shades of orange but the best is just a slight improvement.

I was just wondering if anyone had any knowledge about printing translucent color decals like orange.

Thanks,

Ed

Normal decal paper that we use in inkjet printers will not work against dark color backgrounds. One reason is that these printers do not print the color white. Professional decal makers who use printers will use Alps printing machines which do print white. I believe they print a background of white and then the decal pattern of colors over this. This allows the decal to show up on dark colored backgrounds. For example if you want text, first the text is printed in white then it is printed again in the desired color.

If you are printing a pattern on white decal paper cutting close to the pattern will work. Just make sure you have a super sharp Exacto blade. A dull blade or even scissors will result in the color coming off the decal at the edges showing the white paper.

If you are printing text cutting out the letters will be a real hassle.

If you don't like your results contact Stan Cedarleaf.

I buy all my custom decals from Stan when I need to place on dark background colors.
