My house, like the one in that cartoon, has an entry door (actually two doors).  Anyone who doesn't like the noise or anything else I do there is certainly welcome to make use of it.

And the noise in my place is about to get much worse because I just bought an acoustic/electric guitar and am going to teach myself how to play it.    The trains will be whisper quiet in comparison to that racket.

I just HATE when people start exerting their PC virtues on the standard fundimentals of O guage! Really now what's next!

  • "Lobster claw" size couplers for trains running on unprototypically correct 3-rail
  • too brite white led headlights can blind people
  • too much loco smoke can choke a person out
  • too chunky/large diameter wheels [which provide near flawless operation] looks unprototypical
  • now it's sound is too loud [ think of the resistor on those PE sets that prevent the whistle from activating!]

What's next??? If this stuff bothers you, please leave!

I have an air horn I take to shows and touch it off every once in awhile, scares the kids.

On another note(no pun intended) I actually had a lady come up to my board and tell me I need to slow my trains down, I was running them to fast and the kids cant see them. I politly told her thank you and cranked up the ZWs.

run em fast and furious!!

In all the years of running trains for guests not one

has complained about the noise of the trains.  Being the

congenial host that I am, if someone had complained about

the noise I would have shut them down and offered them a cup

of coffee.

However, I can ensure all here that would have been the last

time they would have come thru the front door.

Many thanks,

Oh yeah!

I always run 4 trains or more at same time.  Most of the time I run them silent at bedtime.  When others are trying to sleep I turn the sound off and refrain from horns, bells and whistles when others have to get up early.  At crossings my speakers are also disconnected.  I run them pretty slow And layout is fairly quiet.

Dont net get me wrong the proto sounds are a big part of the action.  I always use the PFA features.  During daytime operations I only have the volume up on two engines otherwise it gets too busy.

Our layout out is realtrax with homosote (glued to plywood), the track roadbed is foam filled and edges ballasted.

Don't forget that the excessive power needs of O-Gauge train operators are responsible for global warming and pollution, due to the vast number of extra power stations needed to support their needs.

I run the trains on my layout with Lionel Legacy operating system at more realistic and slower speeds.  Not much noise except for the engine sounds which I keep fairly low also.  Operators who race their trains around the track at high speeds might be in the wrong hobby.  Maybe they should be into slot cars or outdoor scale truck racing.

I'm  one of those who prefers to shut down the sound indoors... That way I can hear the sound of the motor, the sound of the wheels on the track and when they pass over the track joints. No smoke indoors.

Outdoors, I'll turn the sound up so I can hear the chuffing, whistles and bells and occasionally add smoke fluid and watch the smoke plume as the locomotive's go round.

Just the control freak Balshis. My nephew has 5 recent release Bachmann and Athearn engines, all with no sound. I would love for him to have heard my former layout with two loops of fastrack and MTH PS2 diesels with the volume near max.He was just looking for an excuse because he does not think trains are ''cool''.This same ''hypersensitive'' guy goes to the gun range regularly,so go figure.
