So I was having troubles with the MTH app and my old phone. Now, whenever I pressed the read or refresh, the app closed. I have tablets laying around to use but some are large and I don't like holding them. I went online to buy a case, and some type of stand. I remember taking our grandson to the Big E show where MTH had the app on display. After asking if he could touch it, he went right up and started playing with the trains on the table.

So in a pinch, I had to come up with something just incase he comes over for the weekend to run trains. I used the idea from the MTH display for the 10" pad, and I have another smaller pad that is more portable. I prefer the small phone but what can I do?

seems like it was destiny... with the app having the Allegheny and I'm working on one today!

A piece of plywood, two smaller pieces of pine for the stand, some rubber plumbing washers against some plastic tubes for stand offs with one side flattened (against the tablet for better hold).

The tablet comes right out and we can grab other ones too. I think I am ready for him!

You have now gone full circle.  You started pinned down to a control panel; then you went to walkaround control so you could be where the action is; now you're tied to a panel again.

I thought of that too. The tablet lifts right out. It's better than laying it down actually. It frees up your hands to do stuff while still being able to run them with a finger swipe.

I also have more pads to walk with as stated.

The main remote is also right there in its holder and it's not tied down either. You lift the remote or the tablet to walk around.

Hey Joe I think I saw a Velcro or elastic forearm band for iPads. I bought the button for the back of the pad.

this is why i still prefer the remote one hand operation and i idon'thave to look at it..

Again, I have other devices that are easier to hold as shown above. I didn't want to wreck a fun train day with a large 10" pad accidently hitting the floor. I will still get a case for it and adjust the mount afterwards. I thought it might give others some ideas on a home made stand for a device. When I see a good solid one that adjusts, I will probably purchase it if I have the cash. For now, this fits the bill for me perfectly until I get the funds.

I didn't realize how many here don't like using the app still. Again I'll post that MTH might consider making a proprietary device that uses a phone or pad's onboard capabilities and adds fixed buttons for control. The main thing I dislike about using the app, is when I'm outside in the sun and can't see the icons. So having fixed buttons would solve that for me. That's why I stick with the remote...... for now.
