Years ago, back in the dim, distant, geologic past, there was a lady in Iowa who was marketing prints of b&w photos of a great many railroad stations, listed by state. I tried to get photos of Southern stations in towns l grew up in, and didn't think to photo when stations still stood. She did not have. Is there an archive of U.S. station photos? How about an archive of historical RR employees, such as station masters ? RR Historical societies best and only hope?

There's a guy who exhibits every year at the Minnesota State Fair who sells pen and ink line drawing art of stations and other railroadiana. I have a print of his drawing of the 261 and have bought several of his station prints for friends, typically from the town the live in or near. I believe most of his drawings center on the upper Midwest - MN, WI and the Dakotas, primarily Milwaukee Road. We didn't have a fair last year so I didn't get to take another look at what he has but we're told the fair will be back this year. His booth is typically in the area that was called "Heritage Square."
Probably not exactly what you're looking for, but this gentleman's Flickr album contains a bunch of contemporary pictures of stations.
Perhaps suitable for a rainy day perusal.
Railroad/Railway historical societies, municipality historical societies and libraries might be starting points. John
l went to Spencer several years ago and tracked down a photo of my dad's last loco, but did not then think to pursue station photos. Covid standstill and time has discouraged another trip.
Could Try here:
This site has Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Minnesota.
Not too much help if you are looking for Southern Railway stations though...
Boy, and apparently something just went on at Spencer, which means the archives might be accessible....too bad it is a "fur piece".
