Yesterday the 1225 kicked off the steam excursion season by pulling a train from Owosso to Clare, MI.  I was up there Friday night for a photo shoot.

Normally I would chase the train but I did something a little different.  I took my 4 year old son with me to "Chase".   It wouldnt be safe or possible to do a full chase from Owosso to Clare so I decided to meet the train in Shephard, about 45 min south of Clare.  I heard they were doing the photo run by there so I thought it would be a perfect location.

He has never seen the 1225 except in some photos.   I really wanted to experience his 1st time seeing his favorite locomotive up close while it was under steam.  I surprised him with the trip and he had no idea what we were going to see until he heard the whistle in the distance.

The best part was when it pulled up to the station he turned to me and said "Daddy is it Christmas Eve, is the train taking all the people to the north pole".   About 10 min later he then said to me "Daddy thank you for taking me to see the 1225 Pere Marquette Berksire, I really love it"!

I started in Shephard on Sat and was able to get some great shots of her during her photo rub bys.  After she left for Clare we took our time exploring the Shephard Railroad Museum and the Ann Arbor RS1 out front.   We then made our way to Clare so he could see her up close and personal.  To our surprise when we arrived at Clare she had not arrived yet.  Another great opportunity for us to see her come into town!

I took about 2 hours worth of video over the 2 nights.  I will be working it down to about 10 mins of really good footage but here is a short preview of what I shot.  Give me a few days to get it all put together.

Thank you for looking and check back as I sort though, edit, and publish many more photos from the trip.

Great photos, the 1225 sure looks good.

But most importantly...this photo.  You created a life long memory for your son that he will never forget.....and you won't either.  Nicely done...

The 1225 run last year in March was the last steam fan trip I went on with my Dad before he passed away.I am glad we went on a bunch of different steam fan rides over the years. He is in the brown jacket in the photo above.

Perfectly logical...this IS the Polar Express engine, after all!

Isn't it amazing how young minds work and think?

He asked many questions about the train.   When we saw it up close in clare he watched them service it very intently.  He asked what they were doing.  Why they were doing it, and why there was water coming out of the hose connecting the aux tender to the tender.

When we got home the next day he wanted to "put grease" all over the side rods of his Lionel Polar Express and wanted me to fill the tender with water..lol

Here is a longer video that I shot that day.  I did use some footage of a NPE trip from December since I didn't get much video of the train under way on Sat.
