My LHS called me yesterday to let me know my SOO Auto Carrier 2-Pack from Lionel came in.  Great I will pick them up after work on Thursday.  I picked up my package today came home and unpacked them in the normal Lionel packaging (3 boxes deep to get to your item) and boom I see my heart just sink to the basement floor.  Both of the cars are damaged almost identical.  Has anyone else experience this with the Auto Carriers?  Okay I'm going to start sounding like a kid and cry in the corner.  Not really, just hope I can replace them with a good set.

I took them back to the LHS to either exchange them or get another set.  They had a another one in the back.  When we opened them up it was the same thing.  YIKES!!!!  They are going to call the distributor on Monday and let them know what is going on.  Hopefully there are some good ones left.

My LHS experienced the same problem - every set that he got in from Lionel was broken in the same way.  IIRC, the tape dehisced, the door opens, then it shifts around in the package enough to break the door.  He notified Lionel early on with a suggested fix to the packing to prevent the problem - they showed no interest in his suggestion.  He returned all of them and eventually had a few come in unbroken.

But Lionel attains parts by disassembling extra units these days.

So if they are all broken from a packaging issue, the ones meant to be harvested for parts could also be broken.

(and Lionel needs time to take items apart... sounds like these just came in, so that likely wouldn't have happened yet)

Good points. I suspect that the containers arrived from China intact and undamaged. The trouble most likely occurred on the domestic leg of the journey.
