HI GANG,
AS DEPICTED IN THE 1939 AF CATALOG & THE REAL ONE THAT I HAVE THERE'S ONLY ONE LIGHT HOUSING. IT’S THE SAME GRAY (GUN METAL?) THAT’S ON THE REST OF THE HOUSING. UNLIKE ANY OTHER THAT I'VE SEEN ON LATER 8s, THE LIGHT HOUSING IS ROUND & ELEVATED 5/8s” @ THE TOP OF THE JEWEL ABOVE THE TOP PLATE. THERE ARE NO MTG SCREWS HOLDING THE ENCLOSURE TO THE CHASSIS. THE THING HAS TO BE VERY GENTLY PRIED OFF.
SIGNIFICANTLY, ON THE REAR, THERE ARE 4 (NOT A TYPO) POSTS. VIEWED FROM FROM THE REAR, WITH THE LEFT – MOST BEING #1 (MY NOMENCLATURE), THE VOLTAGE IS VARIABLE BETWEEN IT & #3, THE RANGE IS 10 - 29.
WAS AN 8 A ISSUED?
I’VE BEEN UNABLE TO FIND, REAL OR ON THE NET AN INSTRUCTION SHEET. I’M GUESSING THAT THE 25 VOLT RANGE IS INTENDED FOR THE LARGER PREVIOUSLY DESIGNED CHICAGO & GILBERT LOCOS i.e. HIAWATHA, PSEUDO HUDSON, PACIFIC, ATLANTIC & SWITCHER. WHAT MIGHT YOU KNOW ABOUT THIS UNUSUAL ‘TRANNY’? ONE OF MY MUCH LATER 8Bs (WITH THE N.C. DIRECTIONAL BUTTON ON TOP) HAS 3 POSTS. THE VARIABLE RANGE IS 7.2 to 17.9.CAN ANYONE HERE COMMENT ON MY SPECULATION ABOUT THIS UNUSUAL VOLTAGE RANGE?
THE VOLTAGE AT OUR OUTLETS IS NOMINALLY 126.
MY METER IS A WAVETEK. EVERY 20 YEARS OR SO (HA HA HA) I USE MY DREMEL WITH A BRASS BRUSH TO REMOVE OXIDATION ON THE POSTS TO ASSURE MOST ACCURATE READINGS.
WHEN THE NEED TO REPLACE POWER CORDS ARISE, I UNSOLDER THE CONNECTIONS BETWEEN THE PRIMARY WINDINGS AND REMNANTS THAT I CUT FROM THE OLD CORDS. I’VE YET TO SEE THIS DONE. I INSULATE THE NEW JOINTS WITH TWO LAYERS OF HEAT SHRINK TUBING.
BEST REGARDS,
SHIFFY
