Hey guys,

I thought maybe someone could help me out here.
I'm running a new lionel 2012 em-1 (undecorated) 2-8-8-4 (6-11336) and it was running fine on the club layout after I initially set it up. Problem is that i accidently programmed the engine while i had another legacy engine on the track. When i went to control the em-1 the other loco responded also. So, i erased the second loco from the remote and reloaded the module and got the second engine going again separately no problem. When i tried to do the same to the em-1, erased/reloaded module on remote it seemed to work fine, but when the track was powered, the lights turned on and idling sounds play, but thats it.....engine won't respond to throttle or other sound commands....actually no commands at all. Also just for info, when i set the engine id and pressed "set" the loco's horn went off.....which means its paired...but its still unresponsive......and I tried this a couple of times and no luck (deleting the profile on the cab2 each time). I even tried addressing it to ID 99 and had the same response. I'm thinking that I need to "reprogram" the board with the "AUX" code, but do I use code 1 or code 74 and will it work on legacy, or will it mess with the locos' electronics even more? See Image.

Any ideas?
Thank you in advance for your help.

I had very similar symptoms a couple weeks ago after deleting two new engines from the base, then trying to start all over.  First engine went fine.  The second engine responded to the Set button, but I couldn't get any sounds, movement or whatever after that.

Turns out, in all my excitement in getting everything back to normal, I forgot to slide the Run/Program button back to Run.

I'm not saying this is your problem, but the symptoms are the same.

Nick,

The EM-1 does not need an "aux" code.  It won't hurt to enter it, but it is ignored.  (This is true of all newer Legacy locos).

Q:When you turn the throttle, does the cab light blink?  If so, then the motor is stalled for some reason, or the motor encoder has failed.

Setting the Engine ID will clear the Train ID in the LOCO; the cab-2 consist builder won't know, but the loco won't respond to the Train ID.  You can also press "info" on the loco ID that you believe is set; and "clear" the loco.  This will send commands to the loco to help restore operation.

If you cannot operate on/off of all lights (Aux2); then check your handrails for any bends that could short the antenna hand rails against the shell.   That is about all I can think of, however I do believe if you set the ID (and the horn blasts) that the cab-2 programming is not the root cause of your problem.

Nick,

The Aux code is a "safe" try, so CS is just being thorough.  I wrote the Operating System for this product, so those details are only purely known to me.

The interesting issue here is the cab light does not blink.  When a throttle command is received, the motor is monitored for motion.  If no motion, and no flash, then the potential for no throttle command received is real.  Are you sure the cab-2 has the train brake off?

Another item that can cause this is the cab-2 Engine Brake (DIR rocker) stuck on.  Happened to me at a show, the engine brake was on, no locos would move.  I somewhat panicked! until I saw the down arrow" on the cab-2 indicating the engine brake was stuck.  Wiggling the rocker, and cycling power on the cab-2 fixed it.

Try another loco, check the cab-2 indicators.  This is certainly a strange issue.

Jon,

I tried another legacy loco already and didn't have any problems...

Like I said with the new loco the cab light is on, headlight is on, tender lights on, and tender is outputting idling sounds, and smoke coming from stack. Once cab-2 was programmed and 'set" was pressed horn went off...engine switched to "run"...still no response from engine or any of the sounds including the quilling whistle, besides the "idling sounds" when Cab-2 sound efx buttons pressed...and no repsonse from the throttle...I already spoke/discussed/explained the situation to the retailer I bought it from and they said they would definitely be sending it back....I'd like to actually know what went wrong with it once it is fixed...this one boggled my mind...

The retailer suggested that it might be a possible communication issue related to the wireless tether. Do you think the tender is not properly communicating with the engine

and might cause this issue? But then again if the tender wasn't communicating with the engine wouldn't an error indicator flash possibly?

Jon (CTO Lionel),

I just wanted to give you the heads up. Loco was dropped off to my dealer on Fri night and should have been sent out today....to be received by Lionel over the next day or so.

Thanx for your help up to this point. I'm not sure if you can...but I'd love to know what the h*ll went wrong...so I can teach/inform other club/forum members "what not to do" when it comes to their new Legacy engine.

Nick B.
