I have a DCS system and recently bought a TMCC command base and connector cable to run 2 TMCC engines. I know you can use the DCS Remote, but Do I need a cab 1 to program the engine in the first place, or am I ok with just the DCS remote. I read at one time about possible problems with engine address'. Any advice is much appreciated.

No you don't need the cab-1. although it's easier  IMHO.

What you do  need to know is the TMCC address,  because DCS will ask for it after naming the engine and hitting the "D" for done. If you don't know the TMCC address (the one you run the engine with the cab-1) you can still add the engine to the dcs remote

Here's how.... Make up a fake engine and add it to the dcs remote with any TMCC address. Now you have something to work with ,next step is to use the dcs remote's  EDIT  TMCC address . Follow the DCS remotes on screen directions... Place run/program switch to program..ETC  Use whatever TMCC address you want, Engine will add to the dcs remote at the lowest available slot, You probably have to dig it out of the inactive list.
