I recently purchased an MTH NYC MOHAWK L3a. I need to know if the 70' Madison cars are the correct ones for this engine. I will start looking for a set. I would prefer an MTH set of five but else who made a good scale set?

L3's started entering service in 1940. if used in passenger service they could have been pulling heavyweights, lightweights, or a mixture of both.
Like Chuck said most any type of car would be correct but depending on the era you model heavyweights would be more common. I think at least during WWII lightweights were pulled by the streamline Hudsons. Later in the '40s and '50s mixed consists were more common. Another train likely pulled by the Mohawks would be the mail baggage trains.
Of the current production MTH is the slight leader in detail but Lionel and the K-Line cars made in 2000s are very good plus Weaver. I run them all together. MTH made cars lettered for NYC and Pullman if you wanted more than 5 cars with unique names.

I noticed that the heavyweights are green, black or gray & black.
Which color is proper for the 1940's t0 1950's?
I prefer the two tone gray to the green so I would still be correct if I got a set of gray?
Anyone have a set to sell or trade? K-LINE K-4471B or MTH version with interiors not the silhouette type. Email or post here. Prefer new or displayed.
