What year did MTH start shipping engines with proto 2
Replies sorted oldest to newest
Believe it was 2000. DCS itself showed about two years later, as I recall.

Protosound 2.0 is DCS, so it showed up at the same time.
I believe proto-2 engines were available a couple of years before the TIU & remote TIU around Apr/2000 (version 2 with no TIU reset) Water's long gone under the bridge. on this one....

Obviously John has the correct info. It makes no sense at all to have developed this fancy command system with no way to use it!
Now, TMCC was a bit different, the command base didn't come out right away, they had the CAB1 and the PowerMaster first.
The TIU and DCS remote did not actually appear on the market for purchase until 2002. About 1.5-2.0 years after PS2 locos as I recall. It may not make any sense, but that's what actually happened. Thus the PS2 locos were operated in conventional mode for a while. The MTH listing is incorrect as to delivery. In August 2000 they were still operating PS2 from a laptop.

Correct and seems the TIU came out before the remote as the beta testers were using a laptop to communicate with the TIU. Seems the first PS2 engine I bought was the Premier UP FEF.
The original question asked:
What year did MTH start shipping engines with proto 2 ?
I have both the engines I listed and I bought them for the reason they had speed control and it was the reason I started buying MTH in the first place. Never had a problem with any one of them. I wasn't worried about the DCS system at that time as I was just getting back into trains. You couldn't buy the DCS system until around 2 yrs. later as it was being beta tested and getting debugged. It was originally priced at $200 in 2000 and when it finally came out it was $300.
Gregg,
I been going to call you, but I've been busy trying to get repairs done in the shop and I'm still not caught up. I will today.
We wasn't able to plant the sod until October due to rain. Then rain washed ruts in it and not enough sun to make things grow. Replanted about half of it and it is finally looking better though it hasn't been mowed yet. We need more sunny days.
