The church I work at abuts the old main line. As far as rails go, everything is long gone (the branch was pulled up after abandonment in the 1930s), but there are some clearings here and there.

Interesting, especially with that lady waving at the passing cars with that third

rail in the countryside, where I would think people would have managed to light

themselves up (or why else would they have taken precautions in stations?).  These

cars, with triple running boards (like double running boards on a 1910 Olds Limited

with 42 inch wheels), look to have sat much higher than the usual interurban.  Also

leads me to wonder about today's subways, where people manage to fall between the

rails and even survive getting run over (not commonly!).  I thought that was an

electocution hazard, and, if not, why not?
