Happy New Year!

I took out an old PS2 Steamer I had that was unused for a few years. Wanted to run it around the Christmas tree in conventional mode for a few weeks. Put a new battery in it and it ran  around no problem, both horn/Whistle worked. Was not able to get PS2 passenger sounds to work. Left it alone.

Today took it down to my existing layout. Put it on track and as soon as voltage is added to track, the engine comes to life, with boiler noise, chatter etc. Problem is I cannot get it to be recognized by DCS. Never had a problem before on past layouts with this loco. For add engine I get the no engine found message. I tried recover engine function, no luck there. Read button was also no help. Even tried this on a separate test track to no avail. It is not listed as an inactive engine. Any suggestions?

 Thanks,

what is your item number of your train I'm in NJ so I can help you. I'll bet you can do a conventional reset and it will work, also you can reset your tiu and remote if necessary! ill send you a email and explain to you ok im in south new jersey! do you have a z4000 MTH transformer! also!

you know you might have the dcs turned off in the remote! just hit menu/system/dcs and then  push thumbwheel and press s3/aon s3 button on the remote that will turn on the dcs then try you remote and train again!

send me an email as you do not have one listed on the forum!

Barry,

It never showed up on the engine list.

It was there when I last used it a few yrs back, while running the 2.0 version.

Last winter I purchased a new TIU, added another remote and everything is now running 6.1

I thought maybe this engine somehow got lost during the upgrade, that is why I started with the add engine.

That may be the problem.

When upgrading from DCS 2.x to any later release of DCS, such as DCS 6.1, it is required to do a RESET of each upgraded device after doing the upgrade. Then, you must re-add any engines or other items that were erased by the reset.

If you do not do so, there are all kinds of issues that may result. This is because MTH changed the way that the TIU and remote use memory in DCS 3.0 and later releases.

You should now reset all of your devices and reload all of the remotes. For the TIUs, do a Feature Reset, not a Factory Reset, or all TIUs will become TIU #1.

Barry,

Just to be clear,Once I purchased the new TIU and remote,I got rid of the old TIU.

I had the old remote upgraded to 6.1 at a train show by an MTH rep.

If this matters...I did do a factory reset with my Z400 on a test track.

It went to program 18,I got the "whoosh" sound but never any clinks or clacks.

Tried that 3 times with the same result.

Barry,  That would be the one remote that was upgraded, as the TIU and other remote were new.

I reset the old remote. It erased everything. Found the 4 engines on the layout but not the problem engine. Still getting no engine found message. I even tried adding it on an isolated test track.

That engine still comes to life as soon as power is applied to the track.

Barry and GGG

Yes it's the only engine that comes on when power is applied to the track.

Item# 30-4039-1

This was a ready to run set.

Southern daylighter with 3 passenger cars.

Was working when I packed it away 3 yrs ago.

I replaced the battery with a fresh standard 9v.

I had no photo batteries handy, though I know I have a couple somewhere,NIB that need to be charged.

I don't see how that would matter though.

GGG and Barry,

Well it now works! But it was an interesting path getting there.

Cleaned the wheels and rollers, though they did not look to bad.

Placed on track and still no good..power to engine but no DCS response.

Repeated trying 3 times and then I get the "engine already in remote"message..HUH? It still was not listed and not working.

That happened again. Then I get the Engine Error message. OK so I am thinking I guess this engine is fried.

Try again..Engine found! And there it is on my engine list. I start it up..it works! Except it also started up the Pacific engine I had on the layout.

Not only did both start but they both responded to all the DCS commands at the same time. UGH! So I took the Pacific off the track. Ran the Daylighter..all was good.

Deleted the Pacific from both remotes and added it back. It took a few times to find it, but it did and now all is good!

So can anyone tell me what actually happened?

Thank you both for your help!!  MUCH Appreciated!

Jack
