Hi, I'm thinking about purchasing postwar #400 & 404. I have the recent 2009 remake of the postwar Budd cars, sets 38313 & 38311.

My question is, Are there any signs or marking on the shells to tell the original postwar 400 & 404 from the 2009 remakes ? I know originals have magna traction and the remakes have magna traction w/rubber tires. I want to make sure some one doesn't put a newer shell on the postwar frame and wheels, selling it as an original postwar.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Just some guesses, since I own neither.

I'm assuming the lettering and numbers on the PW Budds are heat stamped into the plastic shell.  Also, the Budd RDC identification is a decal.

On the newer remakes these are probably reproduced with modern tamping methods common in today's production.

There could be a molded in model number inside the shell of the PW version that is not on the remake.
