What would be your educated guess of the viscosity of Hoppe' #1003 lube oil. Tried to find MSDS on it but must be top secrete.

Why don't you ask a Petroleum or Chemical Engineer - not an Electrical Engineer?
Here's their web address, which has contact information in the menu: try asking them directly.
You should be able to ask the company for an MSDS (material safety data sheet) on it and they have to provide it to you. That will give you all the information you need.
Well, excuse me!!
Another oil thread. I thought they only did these on car and motorcycle forums.
I doubt the viscosity will be listed on an MSDS. The description says "high viscosity". Your best bet is to contact Hoppes as mentioned above.
If you are wondering if it will work on trains, I have used many times. Now I have some other products I use branded for MTH and Atlas. Maybe the same stuff, who knows?

NOt sure if you can deduce what you need from this, but I found the SDS for Hoppe's 1003 High Viscosity Lubricating Oil
Msds sheets don't usually give viscosity. The physical properties are usually found on the technical data sheets. Tds. May or may not be available for public viewing like the msds.
Section 9 of the SDS sheet referred to above gives viscosity as:
223 SUS @ 100" F (SUS = Saybolt universal second -- take a look at the Wiki entry for an explanation of SUS. I'm not sure how 223 SUS compares with the SUS numbers of other oils that may be used for model RR applications).
Sus 223 @ 100C is approximately equal to SAE 20 motor oil.

Hilarious and typical, GRJ can't respond before 15 people jump in offering to 'help' or to criticize the OP.
Next time, just email him off-line. His email is in his profile.
I hear ya george. I know he works with guns also. Wont ask an "oil" question again. LOL. Been using this oil on my trains for many years with great results. Thought "high viscosity" would equate to better than 20 wt. I got pretty thick skin. I'm too old to let smart remarks get under my skin!! Thanks to everyone that replyed. You stay warm up there in rochester neighbor Norton!

Well, you did get some good answers, and some not so good. I confess that I've don't use it so I don't have any direct experience with it.
