And unless you have assembled & dis-assembled them several times, you wont need the clips at all.
They are pretty tight the first few times they connect.
When I got back into the hobby I had a loop that I stood up against the wall when not in use. No clips on it. Was fine for months, till my wife banned me from the room with it.
The main layout in the basement has been up for several years now. No clips on any of it except the points where the siding tracks literally span the 3 foot wide crawl under with no support. I got tired of short sidings so I extended them across.
And Yes, I have a train backed up & parked on them too. (No, no engines on the unsupported sections) There was a board there but it kept falling down so I just left it out and the track is fine.
Now, on the Christmas Loop under the tree, I use clips as needed. Some of the joints are getting loose from repeated assembly. The kids kicking the track has something to do with it as well.
