Asked this on the RC board, maybe I will have better luck here. I have a LC+ 6-81297 Mikado, it smokes very well at slow speeds but as I increase speed the smoke output decreases as if the fan is cooling off the heating element. Any thoughts to this?

The only thing I can think that's happening is, the smoke unit might need a few more drops of fluid. Also as the engine goes faster so does the synchronized chuff, so the smoke is passing across the resistor at a faster pace which will net lighter smoke output.

Art, If you do a forum search there was a fairly long thread not long ago about issues with LC+ smoke units.
I can't remember the poster's name but pretty sure he had a LC+ Pacific that had problems and he ended up sending it back to Lionel after troubleshooting himself.
It was returned in good order and the unit was working better.
