I recently had to change out a failed TIU on the layout, and I mistakenly assumed it would be plug 'n play. WRONG! I wound up having to delete the old TIU and thus losing all my stored engine data, then having to re-enter it all after getting the new TIU up and running. After this escapade I checked the DCS Companion to see what I should have done. (Being a guy, why would I read it beforehand?)

The 2 page Appendix J of the Companion covers the subject in a lot more detail and optional methods than imaginable, and leaves you wondering what exactly you should do. I decided for future reference it would be nice to have a clean simple consolidated method should I ever need to do this again. The attached pdf doc is what I came up with. It may not be perfect and its not intended to cover every possible scenario. So I am asking anyone interested to review it and let me know any errors or glaring omissions.

Thanks!!

Rod, that is a nice reference sheet you made.  Thank you.

I bought a spare TIU a couple years ago, but never looked into how to back one up.  I was thinking there is a way to back up settings from a remote to the pc, but I have never looked into actually doing it.  I may be wrong as well.

There sure is a way to back up the remote contents to your PC Mark. It uses the DCS Loader software V5.0 and the hookup is the same as when updating the software. There is a menu option in the upper tool bar. I did it once years ago for the purpose of duplicating the contents of the main remote to others. Lately however I have gone to one remote for steam, the other for diesel. That seems to make it easier, at least to me it does.

I don't think there is a way to back up the TIU contents, but maybe there is.
