Any idea how many daily trains..freight and passenger? I was amazed to discover that there are about 20 daily Amtrak trains that pass through there.

I was more familiar with it in the RF&P days. There are quite a few trains on CSX through here. A big one to look for is the Juice Train 3 or 4 times a week. Also an easy catch is the VRE daily scheduled commuter train.
There are about 20 scheduled CSX merchandise and intermodal trains on a daily basis. Amtrak is also about 20 between Northeast Regionals, the long distance Silver Service and Carolinians, and of course Auto Train. And during the week there are 14 Virginia Railway Express commuter trains. This is not to mention the CSX road locals out of Richmond and Fredericksburg. Plenty of action, the best time to see freights on the move is between the VRE rush hours around 8-4PM. If you're looking for a high frequency of trains however, head north to Alexandria where you will catch all the VRE and Amtrak trains that take NS's Washington District south-the only thing you will miss are a couple of locals and Auto Train at this spot.
Shoot me a message offline if you'd like some more detailed information on train frequency and routes/railfan spots.
Didn't know you guys are in the area. Fredericksburg is less than 2hrs south of me. what's the station looking like these days. It was looking pretty tired last time I was there.
I figured there would be 26-35 CSX freights.
