I reciently bought a used Railking SW9 diesel with ps-2.It runs great with my Lionel cab -1 remote system with good control and the sounds are good however when I run it with my MTH Z750 transformer it runs very fast with little control and the horn beeps randomly.I replaced the battery with a new one and checked the wiring and checked for good circuit board connections. The Z750 works good with other ps1 and ps3 engines. This is the only ps2 engine I have.

Well, the Z-Controller that controls the voltage generates a chopped waveform, that will sometimes cause random horn and bell action. Also, dirty track will exacerbate the issue.
You might want to post this on the DCS forum, lots of guys over there who could help. I have to say that I have never had issues with the Z-750 and PS2 engines.
It is rare, but I've had a couple of PS2 engines that will not operate properly with the Z500 & Z750 transformers. I can't explain why, but they work fine with a pure sine wave transformer like the Z4000. It was under warranty, so I just replaced the boards.
How do other trains run on the Z-750? There have been issues with some of the controllers, when components fail. What power source are you using with the CAB-1? Power House and Master? G

I cleaned my track and connected the outside rails and mine ran fine after that.
I am using the Powerhouse 180 power supply with the TPC 300 track power controller with the Cab-1 controller. The engine runs good with this system as well as other MTH, Lionel and Williams locomotives. The Z750 works ok with other engines however the Z750's output is only about 14 volts max.and does seem the maximum output of the transformer is some what limited
I believe the Z-750 should have a higher output, it sounds like it may be defective. What does the brick putout or have listed as the output voltage? G
The Lionel Powerhouse 180 brick output is 18vac at 10 amps. The MTH Z750 barely puts out 14vac. I have run my Lionel Lion Chief plus camel back with seven freight cars with the Z750 transformer and it does require about 90% of transformer output.Sound operation is good.
I meant the brick for the Z-750. Usually they have a higher rating than 14VAC. G
The output of the Z750 brick says 24 vac on the label. It measures 25.3 vac with my dvm. It seems the controller is limiting the output.
Since the output is not pure sign wave, your DVM may not measure the output voltage correctly. You really need a true RMS meter to measure other than pure sign wave output.
