The Southeastern division of the TCA is have a Train show and swap meet on Sunday, August 12 at the Kerr Scott building on the NC State Fairgrounds in Raleigh, NC.  The show is open to the public from 10 AM to 3 PM.  It is open to TCA members at 9 AM.  There are usually layouts in G, O, S and tinplate.  The NC Garden Railroad club will have their large G scale layout set up and running.  There are also Kid's club activities for the younger ones.

There are over 100 tables of trains for sale.

The August meet is usually a very good meet as many are again thinking about their fall and winter layout projects.

If you can make it, I think you will enjoy.

Happy railroading,

Don

I didn't know about this show. I live an hour away in Burlington and I went to a show in Winston-Salem last spring. I used to go to computer shows in the same building many years ago but I don't think they have been around for a while.

I hope to come but my oldest son is visiting and will be leaving Sunday afternoon. Is it Sunday only?

Google NC State Fairgrounds and look under schedule of events there you will find listings for each month. the TCA shows, Neuse River Valley shows and I think it's call the American Toy Show or something like that are listed by the date they will be held.

Southeastern TCA will have a 2 day show and christmas party in December at the fairgrounds.  Sorry but I don't  have the date here in front of me. Hope you make it Sunday.

If you're a member of this forum and attend this Sunday's TCA show in Raleigh stop by table 154 and say hello; I'd love to meet you face to face.

My brother that I visit about once a year or so, lives near Raleigh.  He told me not to come down in August because it is too hot.  I happen to like the heat AND I lived there (although it was a long time ago) for two years with out AC.  I would have liked to come to the show.  I will have to check out the next show dates.

Dewey... At least you "crank up".  I just get cranky!

I finally arrived at the Raleigh Train Show and was pleased to meet and chat with Forumites DG Jones and Steve[aka "ACL Fred"]. Initially I walked the rows examining the tables and reading name tags. I was the old guy staggering around with a cane and oxygen pack on my back[however I only used the oxygen going back to my parking spot which I believe was close to the city limits of Durham---lot of folks{and cars} there for the Fairground Flea Market and food service as well as for the Train event].

Couldn't find a red table cloth and a 6'-4"proprietor with a gray goatee[or any other Forum Members]. So I went to the Meet's front table and sought locations and ID help from the TCA guy in the Pioneer Stripe railroad cap. That is how I found DG and Steve but no luck tracking down Dave[NCDave].

Anyway I bought a Lumber Yard Office from DG to go in one corner of my layout to complement the Frick Sawmill and homemade Lumber Shed. DG had a long table with a nice, huge display of trains, structures, etc.

As usual I had a great time in Raleigh today; Don, Dave and Dewey it was a pleasure meeting and talking with you.  I look forward to visiting with you at future TCA meets.  Rob we may have talked at my table and just not realized it.  Next time I'll have to put a big sign so no one will miss seeing anyone.

I was there with my two boys, but hadn't checked the Forum before I left so I didn't recognize anyone. Lots of neat stuf I hadn't seen at other meets before (on one table was a nice 773 Hudson), and there was a neat seller with a pretty large collection of real railroadiana, including what appeared to be a never-before-used long-spout oil can.

I thought the show was a success.  The kid's area was swamped with children all day. There were layouts in all the popular scales and train races for the teenagers.

It was great to meet so many OGR forum members from our area.  I had a chance to see Lee Willis again and meet for the first time ACL Fred, ncdave, oldrob, F-V Trains, and Dewey Trogdon.  Great bunch of guys!  Thanks for stopping by to say hello.

Happy railroading,

Don
