Looking for a detailed REA boxcar, not the reefers. Are there any out there? Planning on building and using a corner for station with REA office, etc. to simulate the station and REA during the 50s of my hometown station and trackage. I just can't find a decent boxcar, might have to resort to painting, decal one myself. All I see are the operating ones, or waffle boxcars, want neither. Thanks

Thanks, I looked and seems they no longer have them in inventory.
Weaver is re-running these cars. You can reserve them on their website. I have four and look forward to adding more of these to my collection.

What era are you modeling? Post WW-2 REA concentrated on refrigerated deliveries so most of their fleet was refers. There were some cars like the converted troop cars (Weaver model is a good example) and converted baggage cars (even one ex PRR horse transport car) that were still in use. These would have had what most modelers expect in the way of paint/REA markings and would be appropriate for 1950's thru late 1960's/early 1970's. By this time most of the reefer cars had been stripped of their refrigeration equipment.
Post 1929 the company was made up of 86 member railroads with no one road being "in charge". Cars would be modified by the parent railroad for express service (aka the ability to be used on high speed passenger trains) and have hybrid markings. The car would be ATSF, PRR, NYC but have REA markings as well.
Mid 50s is the time period. The station was only 4 miles away.
Josef,
I just checked the Justrains website. They still have the REA cars available in 2 and 3 rail. Look under Weaver rolling stock and a picture will come up. According to the website they have 11 cars left in 3 rail at a very good price.
Thanks. At first only the 3 freight cars came up. Typed in Weaver REA, then they showed up. Got one.
From the Weaver website, current listings. There could be others. The Archives would show more, but it would be a tedious search.

I had one of these:

But realized it's a PS1 car and not correct for the SAL REA cars. I ende up repainting it as a PS1 car, as it should be. The SAL REA cars had riveted, flat ends, like the PRR X29(?) cars.
You can park a baggage car by the REA office!
REA refers were also used for non-cold shipment, by not adding ice!
A PRR x-29 was a smaller prototype car, and may be a better choice for a scene.
I have a Weaver REA refer.
