I just purchased an MTH R-T-R Santa Fe Passenger Set with PS3  and it came with the DCS Remoter Commander.  Although everything seems to be working correctly, I do have a question on the orientation of the harness connections on the receiver and any help would be appreciated.

If you orient the receiver with the two harness connections facing away from you and the transformer connection facing towards you, the red harness connection is on the left and the black harness connection is on the right.  All the MTH literature shows the connections just the opposite with the red connector on the right and the black connector on the left.  The lock-on (oriented with the track away from you and the lock-on near you) has the red connector on the right and the black connector on the left.  I was just wondering if the receiver is correct as everything appears to be working but the harness wires need to cross to make the connection from the receiver to the lock-on.

Thanks.

Hmm...interesting!  You are correct.  One my DCS Remote Commander setup (on my tinplate layout) the red and black terminals on the receiver are also the opposite of what is shown in the manual.  I checked the online version of the manual just a few minutes ago, and they are indeed opposite what is shown.

My setup, which works well, does not use the MTH Lockon, but I just connected the red wire from the center rail of the track to the red terminal on the receiver, and the black wire from the outside rail of the track to the black terminal on the receiver.

Steve,

Just remember no matter how the pictures are drawn, the red terminal must run to the mid rail, I had to explain this to one of the new runners as we connected his

RealTrax layout, he had seen the same pictures.  DCS TIU the same way, red must run to the mid rail all the time.  I actually like the way Rich explains this on the OGR DCS Video Guide, there is something about visual directions that I have always liked.

In this case, you have to rely on the internal wiring of the receiver being correct and that the output terminals are color coded red and black correctly.  I don't know if the red and black connectors are removable and able to be switched.  I can only rely on connecting the harness cables red to red and black to black and the same at the lock-on.  Although you can physically see the connections on the bottom of the lock-on but not within the receiver.  Everything is working so I am assuming the internal wiring of the receiver is correct.

And that is precisely what any purchaser of the Remote Commander setup should do.  Just match the colors--red-to-red and black-to-black--and don't worry about it.  That's what I did/do and everything works correctly.

It's something that MTH should certainly look into and correct, if necessary, but I don't see it as a big deal if everyone just follows the correct color coding (which is pretty much standard with all toy train track connections).
