So, you really think I shouldn't parallel my postwar ZW's? The trains ran really nice until it hit the toy my son left on the track.
No, I didn't catch the smoke. Should I have? It was a lot.
I'd keep running it, I don't think the heavy smoke is coming anytime soon.

My guess is that this board has seen a lot more than 18 volts AC or DC. That type of damage, I'd be checking power supply also. "Once you let the smoke out, it's hard to get it back in" One of my son-in-laws 
Looks fixable as long as no internal traces shorted!

PS/2 3V processor board. Something very bad must have happened for it to do that. 
One of my attempted soldering jobs. That's why I leave it to the professionals.

That's really not that hard to do!
Just probe around the wires while the engine is running, or fire a conversion up while some of the wires are still bare, or..... whatever the grandkids did to theirs.
G, looks like three components are fried? and this one is not mine!
Ps-2 processor (bottom) board. It is a 2 mg board. I see a fried sound amp and more. Looks like a trip to GGG is in store.
I think it looks more like a trip to the trash can! With all that circuit board damage, there is no rescuing that board!

Yep. Too much damage. The heat damaged stuff on the processor board as well. The motor is smoked too. This is a very expensive repair just in parts.

You mean the power supply, right? That is the processor board we're looking at. So you're saying the whole board set is a total loss, I wonder if a shorted motor did all that? I had a shorted motor take out the Legacy RCMC, a couple of the FETs went up in smoke and there was no rescuing it.
Dave, was this caused by someone using an old Lionel transformer without protection?

Dave, do you have any Atlas 100 ton roller bearing trucks in stock at the store right now? I was working on replacing the Bettendorf trucks on my dad's K-Line gundersons and I need two more trucks to finish them up.

You overshot the mark here, that one appears to be WELL DONE!
Model train remote control circuit boards are complex and difficult to fix. Half the time you cant even identify what IC's to use and if they are still available. It looks like the whole circuitry will need to be replaced with something. A Dallee or Williams reversing/sound board should work.
As for my quote for the picture "Not Mil Spec."
Also looks like diode D 3 burnt up also ! on top right corner!
