Hello all,

I'm currently working on an early 254e with a pendulum reverse. The wires that go up to the headlights have lost a lot of their insulation, and are in desperate need of replacement. I'd like to replace them with something close to the original rubber-covered wires, but I have been unable to find anything like that online.
Is there a source for restoration period correct rubber covered wire? If not I'll go with my original plan of using fabric covered push-back wire, or super-flex and just not look too closely when it's done.

YMMV, but it doesn't sound like you're working on a museum piece that demands perfection, and the wiring you're working on sounds like it will be completely concealed in operation in any event, so I think I'd just opt for whatever safe, modern wire you might have at hand. IOW, it's likely only you will ever know what you used, so unless you're obsessed with authenticity, I'd use any modern, more durable wire you might have available.

There is a wire specification developed by AT&T for the battery room wiring which is as close to rubber as you can get. It is Telcoflex. It is available with or without a fabric covering. It comes in class B stranding or very fine stranding.  It is rated at 600 volts.  Down side is it may be available only down to size #14. On the other end, I think it goes up to 350 mcm.   It is available in multiple colors including black. I buy it from Cobra Wire and Cable.
