The manual for this engine states "Disconnect Battery And Slide Out Of Bracket".  Sounded easy.  Here are photos of the battery:

I tried pushing on the black battery housing, but it doesn't move.  One post stated taking the boards off which I really don't want to do (only 2 screws?).  Another stated there are some screws under it that will allow it to slide out, but I did not see any.

For you techs, how do you replace it?

Remove the screw on the aluminum heat sink.  Lift the board out of the bracket.  You may have to remove the wire harnesses. Remove the black plastic bracket. Remove the steel bracket support.  Remove the battery.

Have you tried charge the blue battery using an external charger or on the tracks with the sound and smoke turned off?  The blue batteries are very robust and accept and hold a charge really well.

It was on the external charger all night (maybe 9 hours) with just a little improvement on how long the sound lasted after power shutoff.  Really didn't want to take thinks apart but it looks like that is what I need to do.

I had a similar situation on a GP-9. I unplugged the battery, left it where it is and plugged in a BCR.  I was able to relocated the BCR and zip tie it to the main wiring harness without interference of other components.

Now that sounds great since I am using a BCR too (maybe I should have mentioned that since the BCR is smaller).  I will check it tomorrow to see if that will work for me.
